Chad Alan Goldberg

CHAD ALAN GOLDBERG is an associate professor of sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his Ph.D. from the New School for Social Research in 2002. His areas of specialization include comparative-historical and political sociology as well as social theory. He is particularly interested in the sociology of citizenship, broadly understood to include the development of citizenship rights and duties over time, changing levels and forms of civic engagement and political participation, and shifting patterns of civil inclusion and exclusion. He has related interests in democratic theory, social movements, and the welfare state.

His book won the Outstanding Book Award from the Theory Division of the Society for the Study of Social Problems in 2010 and received Honorable Mention for the Barrington Moore Book Award from the Comparative and Historical Sociology Section of the American Sociological Association in 2010.

He will be a member of the Princeton Institute for Advanced Study in 2011-2012, working on a new book about modernity and the Jews in social theory. For more on Chad Alan Goldberg, visit his home page.
