The “through no fault of their own” cliche is a political fallacy. The illegals, and their progeny, handsomely benefit from criminal acts of themselves or their parents THROUGH NO VIRTUE OF THEIR OWN.

There are millions of qualified, law-abading prospective immigrants that are hopelessly waiting in line for their turn to be allowed into the US while the lawbreakers just jump in front of them and preempt America’s generosity for themselves and their numerous kids.

It’s a fallacious argument to legalize those children simply because they were “brought” (which in so many cases is an unproven claim) here through no fault of their own (another unproven assertion). The question that should be asked, instead, is: “Are they going to benefit from illegal acts of their parents through no virtue of their own?”

I am a Pole and personally I have no problem with Polish – Jewish relationships. We have 1000 years history, Poles saved many Jews from German Nazis (without that there practically won’t be any Jews left today), and then these saved Jews later (those who didn’t go on to build the state of Israel , or didn’t flee due to the postwar horrors) hand in hand together with Poles reclaimed back our country from the Communist regime. Poland is alive today thanks to all these Jewish and Polish patriots, angry with the Nazi and Communist oppressors. That’s what i see, but i studied our history and i am free from prejudices. I don’t separate Jew from Pole, to me they belonged to the same country. So no, i don’t believe in any antisemitism, any zionism or racism. But i believe there is tremendous trauma. I still see two traumatized nations, lots of lost history, lots of manipulated facts, lots of hurt, lots of things that need to be explained and understood.

Per quello che il mio scarso inglese mi consente di capire si tratta soltanto di una superficiale citazione della teoria dell’amico-nemico associata al nome di Carl Schmitt. Si parla poi di un fatto di cronaca. L’articolo in quanto tale non ha nessun carattere “scientifico” nel senso che non può essere annoverato nella letteratura di carattere scientifico su Carl Schmitt allo stesso modo in cui non basta che una cita Einstein per essere annoverato come uno studioso di Albert Einstein e delle sue astruse (per chi non le capisce) teorie astrofisiche: si cita Einstein per dire che è un “genio” e Carl Schmitt per dire che è un “demonio”… Chi studia seriamente l’uno o l’altro si trova a dover perdere del tempo con citazioni del tutto strampalate e superficiali.

This is a great piece Jeffrey, well done. Other articles and opinions I’ve read have settled for far simpler for or against statements.

This speech could be the most intriguing and nuanced one I’ve ever heard and I almost feel like saying he should’ve received the prize solely for delivering such quality of thought and poetry in politics. Of course he’s more deserving than just that. Although I completely understand why it was a controversial decision…and still is, I feel sometimes words do matter a lot, visions of how a type of world peace can be reached (which is really what the speech is ultimately trying to deal with) and a pragmatic crystal clear roadmap like this one can make a huge difference in the world if said by a man in the most powerful political position in the world. Peace through deeper international consensus and cooperation, through strengthening institutions like the UN. These should really be the map to world peace!

I might also mention world peace has been subject to much ridicule and mocking because of the overly ambitious dreams of hippies, how brave is it then to base a whole speech on the notion and give a roadmap to achieving it that actually seems tenable
