BIN XU is a Ph.D. candidate at Northwestern University. His doctoral thesis is focused on politics of moral sentiments in the wake of the Sichuan earthquake in China in 2008. Based on data collected from textual resources and fieldwork, the thesis explores how our moral sentiments are constrained and enabled by state-society relations in collective stress. His other interests include collective memory and social movements. Bin Xu will be on the faculty at Florida International University in this fall.
