Thank you for your comments. I think that’s really the key: sifting through all the work being done to identify which is taking the largest strides forward and then building on it. Also, there may also be a lot of interesting ideas in the work which doesn’t seem to be contributing much on the surface.

Daniyal, I am sorry for your bad experiences and hopeful for your enthusiasm. There are plenty of fools in academia. There have always been – it’s just that we have mostly forgotten those of yesteryear. And inshallah there will always be, because there is a fool born every minute 😉

But there is beautiful work being done, and most important, there is beautiful work yet to be done. In all areas of knowledge, in all places in the world. Your mission, should you chose to continue in the academic path, is to find it. Don’t let the junk distract you, concentrate on the your good work and that of others, and enjoy!

Enough for a comment; let me try to prove some theorems.
