(In this sense these movements, at least in the US, had their beginnings in the late 1990s). Whether its US backed dictators in the Middle East or protesting Bank of America, there are many of the same factors involved, and the same desire for freedom.

And I think if you look closer at the symbols which appear and circulate via new social media in the protests of NNSM, as well as the tactics which are used, live streaming for instance, you’ll find a continuity throughout the world that shows these movements are truly global in nature.
