I still think about the points that you made in “The Cynical Society.” For instance, “The actions of political (and cultural, economic, and religious) leaders, the general public, the media, and the scholarly academic community all constitute the fundamental character of the cynical society. But they do this without much reflection. Cynicism dominates the assumptions of our political and cultural life.” As a social form (in Simmel’s sense of the term), cynicism continues to survive and seems to be even more prevalent, if that is possible. Cynicism appears to be a tactic of choice. It is easier to promulgate in our media dominated society.
